Winter Crops Planted
Last week it felt like had Autumn arrived with it’s sunny, bright and crisp mornings. The fingers even got cold feeding the rabbits.
On Monday I planted more broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, carrots, beets and radishes in the greenhouse and hoop houses, filled in chard and collard beds and moved more baby kale that came up from last years hoop house plantings.

Planting your Autumn Hoop House
If you have a small hoop house, about 10 x 5′, plant a row of Broccoli or Cauliflower down the middle, then you can plant kales, chards, spinach or arugula around them and put fast growing roots; such as Seeds of Change “Champion” radish or Botanical Interests “Little Finger” carrots, in between. As you thin, harvest roots, and your cut and come-again greens, you’ll be working closer to the edge of bed. Your broccoli and cauliflower will have room to grow tall in the middle and if the growing is good you may want to thin some lower leaves.
3rd Quarter Moon Phase
We have four days left in our waning 3rd quarter moon phase, so besides being harvest time, this is a good time to apply 501 Horn Silica prep for your young seedlings if you have your autumn and winter garden in.
